Stress is part of being human and therefore inescapable. Stress however, should arrive when we need it – our bodies biological response to a threat, and leave when the threat is over.
Chronic stress is when stress is persistent, over a long period or constantly re-occurring, and it can have profound negative effects on the body. This includes but is not limited to an increase in blood pressure, cholesterol, heart disease, autoimmune disease and inflammation.
With the effects of stress and anxiety being so widespread, it is interesting that so many of us are not equipped with the skills in counteracting it. There has been a recent surge in mindful body-based practices that allow a bottom-up approach to therapy, allowing the participant an interoceptive experience – a chance to really connect with their bodies in a deep and transformative way.
When we joyfully move our bodies, it sends a very specific message to the brain that there is no chance of threat.
Incorporating breathing techniques and yoga. Rise Your Shakti is a mindful movement workshop for those identifying as women and is designed to free the tension that resides in the infinite loop that is our mind-body.
